Representative of Established in 2004, NRIDS operates at the national level through the network of Community Information Centers (CICs); and shares the experiences and innovative concepts to the like minded people all over the world through the international knowledge networks. With an unique blend of the social focus, NRIDS and its local CICs, deliver Information and communication Technology (ICTs) services to the rural areas of Nepal, providing advocacy, awareness-raising, and policy reform.

It works in a three layered architecture. It suggests central government for the policy reform and innovative planning, aware and prepare local governments/NGOS about the national/international Standard practices of ICTs and aware the grassroots communities about its Importance. When the Rural communities are fully aware about ICTs, NRIDS provides training and consultancy for CIC establishment and lobbies with the government, national and international donor agencies for further growth. So this parallel layered approach assures the preparedness for ICTs implementation in all levels. As CICs are community owned the project supports development of local content and knowledge management, human capacity and human resource development. NRIDS felicitates to create an environment for viable information access and help stem rural migration to urban areas for accessing information and ideas.

NRIDS promotes action towards rural transformation by the establishment of the CICs; implements the maximum use of ICTs and networking them. NRIDS collaborate with community based organizations, local community, youth clubs (YUVA clubs) and women’s (MAHILA) organizations to implement projects at grass root level. Its working methodology is `By the Community for the Community and with the Community`. NRIDS working strategy is achievement of goals through collaboration with major stakeholders of the community.

This work began with the endorsement of Engineering students, local communities of Syangja, the members of NRIDS and District Development Committee of Syangja. The team has been formulating a blueprint to convert Syangja into the model district for an ICT Revolution in Nepal. The blueprint is based around the establishment of CICs in villages where there is currently an extreme shortage of Information. A CIC with the involvement and support of local business people, teachers, serviceman, and young people, have been established in 20 villages in Syangja, Kaski, Dang and Parbat district. NRIDS aims to establish at least one CIC in each districts of Nepal such that Success Case Replication-SCR is possible.

Currently NRDS ICT task force is working on `Internet in every village, every village a tourism destination` program. NRIDS ICT Task Force consists of youth living inside and outside Nepal. There are 50 ICT Engineers and ICT Professionals involved in the ICT Task Force to carry out the various research activities for the ICT Revolution in Nepal. More than 150 intellectual domain experts are also involved with the NRIDS. There are more than 500 people from different parts of Nepal who are actively working to aware and empower their communities with ICTs. All these activities are being carried out voluntarily by the members of NRIDS. The membership is open to all the interested Ignited minds from any part of the world. NRIDS strongly believes that `The one only alternative of developing Nepal is through ICTs. `
